July 2015 President's Message

Message from the President

We are six months into an exciting year for ANCDS. It has been a year of considerable transition and I am happy to report that the transition has gone very smoothly. In December we thanked Frances Laven for her many years of service to ANCDS and in January we welcomed Sheryl Hazard and her staff at Association Development Service (ADS) of Minneapolis, Minn., who have taken on the administrative support duties for ANCDS. ADS is learning the new terminology surrounding all things speech-language pathology and neurogenics. Their expertise has been so helpful with updating procedures and practices in ANCDS. First and foremost was their assistance in revising our website.

For most of you, the website change seemed seamless. We sent you the link to ancds.org and you could access the new pages with the modern, fresh look. But this website update took hours and hours of work on the part of ADS staff member, Rachel Reich, who used her considerable experience with MemberClicks to develop our new platform, and ANCDS volunteers on the Communications Committee, namely Miriam Krause, Renee Fabus, Deanna Britton and others, who focused on the content. I hope you have visited the updated website and appreciate the new look with a different logo and colors. Some new features that you might notice are a Member Resources section and links to make dues and meeting payments online. Those will come in handy in the fall!

Under the guidance of ADS, we are thinking strategically for this year. As part of our strategic planning we will soon be sending out information to participate in a member survey. It has been some years since we have queried the membership on professional needs and perspectives of ANCDS. We hope that many of you take 10-15 minutes to log in and respond to the survey. We value your opinions and will use the results to guide us in our strategic planning session in November.

The ANCDS committees have been busily at work conducting the typical ANCDS duties: recruitment, honors, certification, communication, finances, scholarly meeting, among others. We are grateful to so many member volunteers, including the ANCDS Board, who give of their time and talents to get the work of ANCDS done. Working with ADS has made those duties flow ever so smoothly.

We will see you in the fall in Denver for our annual scientific and business meeting--save the date of November 11.

In the meantime…enjoy the summer!
